Dr. Sudha Jain is currently, President, Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT). Sudha Jain is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Lucknow University. With a B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc (spl) in Organic Chemistry, she joined the Medicinal Chemistry Division of Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow as CSIR Junior Research Fellow for her Ph.D. Prof. Jain continued to work at CDRI in various capacities (from JRF to Scientist C) and then joined the Dept. of Chemistry, Lucknow University as Reader. She has also served as Director M.Sc, Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department of Chemistry, Lucknow University from 2006-2010. Since 1976, she has been actively engaged in Natural products, Bio-organic Chemistry & Pharmaceutical Development Research and has made significant contributions in the area of alkaloid and alkaloid biosynthesis. During the course of work a number of biologically active alkaloids have been isolated from Indian medicinal plants. She has traced biosynthetic pathways in living plants and cell free system of various biologically active alkaloid and has isolated and synthesised a number of compounds from marine animals with anti-implantation activity.
Prof. Sudha Jain has 70 research publications in International and National Journals of repute. She has also authored four books and contributed chapters to six books including a chapter in a series "The Alkaloids" published by Academic Press, New York. She is the recipient of UNESCO/ROSTSCA Young Scientist Award, Indian National Science Academy Medal for Young Scientist, National Scholarship by Govt. of India, Merit Scholarship by Govt. of Uttar Pradesh besides others. Prof. Jain has presented research work at various international conferences in USA, Hungary, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, Mauritius etc. Under the bilateral Exchange Programme between Indian National Science Academy-Hungarian Academy of Sciences, she was in Hungary to learn recent techniques involved in the tritium labelling of biologically active compounds & synthesis of biologically active compounds. She was sponsored by UNESCO to learn techniques involved in enzymic biotransformations of natural products in Munich. Prof. Jain is also a member of several scientific societies like Indian Chemical Society, Indian Science Congress Association, National Society of Ethopharmacology, Indian Society for Mass Spectroscopy, Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Sciences etc.
