About City

Atlanta, capital of the state of Georgia, is in almost all respects the principal centre of the American South. It lies in the foreland of the southern foothills of the Piedmont Plateau, on the watershed between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic. The city was originally planned as a railway junction, and rapidly developed into an important commercial town. In recent years it has become a major economic and cultural centre in the American southeast and an important hub of air traffic. Internationally famed businesses, including Coca-Cola and CNN, have their headquarters here.

Those visiting Atlanta should not expect to find a romantic southern city, but rather a large and vibrant American city with southern charm. The best time to visit Atlanta is from late May to August, when you can enjoy the numerous concerts and outdoor activities happening around the city. On the other hand, the mild weather of the spring and fall might be better if you want to beat the heat. Atlanta's summers are hot and humid, with average highs in the upper 80s. Most festivals and outdoor events are held in the city's parks at night when temperatures cool down.

Atlanta has been involved actively in the childhood obesity programs making a difference in the childhood obesity epidemic. Inc. (CHOICES), based in Kennesaw and downtown Atlanta, hosts two expos to bring health education into underserved communities. The program’s focus is on nutrition education and physical activity in order to help children maintain a healthy weight. The Active Schools Acceleration Project (ASAP) is an entrepreneurial non-profit focused on increasing quality physical activity in schools.
